Different sciences & pathies have given their own view regarding Nutrition. Good nourishment or nourished diet maintains healthy state of body , mind and social well being. Ayurveda teaches that food is the prana or life force of living being and that life is continual search for food. Life Lives off Live. We maintain own lives by consuming other living beings.
Any substance can act as food, medicine poison.
Food- is that which nourishes the body, mind & spirit. Medicine - improves digestion to enhance nourishment. Poison - impedes digestion and disturbs nutrition.
Each food article you eat alters your mental disposition. You naturally attracted to those foods which create within you state of mind which you desire and naturally repulsed by those foods which produce opposing state of mind. ( ex. recently got patient whose younger brother of age 35 passed away and because of that stress he naturally attracted to sweet food/ craves sweet so he recently got elevated blood sugar.)
FUNCTIONS OF FOOD 1) Dhatuvardhan - Day by day our body tissues decreases in strength. Food is made up of 5 basic elements which nourishes body tissues.
2)Formation of Calories/ Energy - for all movements of body.
3) To increase Immunity - to fight against disease.
Hybrid food is bigger but quality wise not as good as naturally grown.
Considering food in Modern aspect - Calories/ Ushmank, Proximal principles ( proteins,carbs, far, starch vit. etc )
According to Ayurveda Rasa- Taste, Virya-Potency, Vipak- End product of Digestion, Prabhav- Special effect, Guna- Qualities are important. Appetite- Agni bala Desh-Place Kaal parinam- food convertion, Dhatwagni- tissue metabolisn. Are all important aspect for diet therapy.
All principle changes in external universe same changes we found in the our body. When time period of formation of fruits and seeds is less than formation of all dhatus is less ex. Trun dhanya- nachani, vari.provides less nourishment compare to wheat. For ex.Banana - gets spoils easily, soft structure externally and internally, also tree distroys after fruit so it wont forms asthi/ bones in our body. This all factors tell us that it forms upto mansa and meda. Now Dry Fruits/suka meva- ( almonds, pista, walnut)- very strong covering, good carbs, reaches to all dhatus.
